In true Antiguan style, we’re fashionably late, but we couldn’t let this one pass without a proper rundown.

Insane Carnival, widely known as one of the larger and more influential bands on the road, has officially unveiled its 2026 Carnival presentation: Shiny Eyes. The theme is said to embody all things nice.

From first glance, the lineup delivers exactly what masqueraders have come to expect from standout Tuesday wear: bold feathers, shimmering embellishments, and high-impact detailing designed to catch the light — and attention. While the designs don’t overtly reference a specific historical era or natural motif, they lean heavily into emotion.

Shiny Eyes doesn’t necessarily reinvent the wheel — but it certainly polishes it to a high gloss.

Desire

As Insane describes it, “Desire is not loud. It is not force. But it is undeniable.” And visually, the section delivers on that sentiment. The blue tones create a soothing yet captivating effect. They don’t scream for attention; they draw you in. There’s a quiet confidence in the palette — cool, composed, and self-assured — which makes blue the perfect choice.

Rather than relying on aggressive colour contrasts or excessive embellishment, Desire leans into subtlety and balance. It’s refined, alluring, and effortlessly powerful — the kind of presence you don’t have to chase because it naturally commands the room (or, in this case, the road). For the female frontliners, the headpieces are a true showstopper — commanding without being overwhelming.

Obsession

This is our favourite. The beading alone is impeccable — meticulous, luxurious, and executed with a level of detail that demands a second (and third) look. Every stone placement feels intentional, catching the light in a way that elevates the entire presentation. It’s the kind of craftsmanship that reminds you why large bands continue to set the standard.

Then there are the colours — flaming, fiery tones boldly complemented with gold. Together, they create a sense of intensity that feels almost magnetic. You don’t just see this section; you feel it. There’s a persistence to it, an energy that mirrors obsession in its most captivating form.

And yet, it never tips into excess. Instead, it feels indulgent in the best way. This is the kind of costume you can admire over and over, letting your gaze linger on every detail, without ever questioning whether your fixation has gone too far into obsession.

Lust

The design leans boldly into yellow and pink — a vibrant, high-energy pairing clearly intended to evoke a brazen, unapologetic mood. The colours are playful and daring.

That said, when you hear the word “lust,” you might instinctively imagine deeper, more sultry tones — reds, crimsons, perhaps even darker metallics. Yellow and pink feel less traditionally seductive and more flamboyant and spirited.

Envy

Let’s be clear, Insane says this section is, “Not jealousy. Not imitation. But longing.” That distinction is important.

The costume blends blue, green, and purple — a palette that immediately signals a departure from the most obvious visual cue we associate with envy. After all, we’ve all heard the phrase “green with envy.” And yes, green is present here. But it doesn’t dominate in a way that makes the theme predictable. Instead, it’s softened and layered with cool blues and rich purples, creating something more contemplative than confrontational.

If anything, the mix makes you pause. You don’t immediately think, Envy. And perhaps that hesitation is intentional.

Rather than portraying envy as sharp, bitter, or glaring, this interpretation leans into the quieter side of the emotion — the longing beneath it. The blues introduce depth, the purples add moodiness, and the green becomes less about rivalry and more about yearning. It feels introspective instead of aggressive.

Maybe that’s the point. Not jealousy. Not imitation. But longing — expressed through colour in a way that challenges the obvious and invites a second look.

Shiny Eyes

The eponymous section of Insane Carnival’s release — the one that carries the spirit of “Shiny Eyes” itself — runs on a hot cocktail of fuchsia, layered with red and orange, and punctuated by a complementary pop of blue.

It’s bold. It’s unapologetic. And it absolutely understands the assignment.

The fuchsia forms the heartbeat of the section — vibrant and expressive — while the red and orange amplify the heat, creating a palette that feels alive and electric. The addition of blue is a clever counterbalance, preventing the look from becoming one-note and instead adding dimension and visual intrigue.

On the road, this section is guaranteed to turn heads. And with Insane’s typically high turnout, the visual impact will only multiply. Imagine that blaze of colour moving in unison — feathers catching the sun, gems flashing under the light, the entire section pulsing with energy.

If “Shiny Eyes” is meant to captivate, this section makes sure no one looks away.
